Painting a landscape in the studio offers a rich and interesting experience. At its best we are stretching a moment, reflecting more deeply upon a place, and expanding mood. We will be taking original inspirations, and move through the process of making drawings and studies for the purpose enriching our understanding of what we are attempting to create.

Studio painting is well served by a clear vision, imagination, and, most importantly, knowing why you’ve chosen your subject. You will develop an understanding of how the light and air conspire to describe the scene that will inform your intuition. While you are painting, I will offer assistance with questions and suggestions. I will expect students to take full advantage of having a dedicated space and time to work.
